How do I determine the caster capacity I need for my cart?

When figuring out the capacity needed for your cart casters. It is important to remember that you must count for one less caster. The reason you count one less caster is for extra safety and security. For example, take your typical 4-wheel cart. It is not a given that all 4 wheels will always be on the ground, there is sure to be an unevenness with the ground at one point. With that in mind, you will want 3 casters to suit your capacity even though the cart has 4.

Here is another example.

Let's say you need a cart to have an 800-pound capacity, what capacity casters do you need?

Let's assume this cart has your typical 4 wheels. To figure out capacity you will take that 800 and divide it by 3 casters and you get that each caster will need to hold close to 266 pounds.  With that, you will want to order a caster with a capacity of at least 266 pounds.
